The first thing I do when I get up in the morning even before washing my face, is give Baby his food. I then go about making breakfast and coffee to start my morning. Before I leave the house for school, I brush my teeth. Baby leaves the house at the same time that I do. He goes out and plays with his friends and I get on my scooter and go off to school. Since Baby can’t get a job and earn money, it’s my responsibility to work and buy him cat food. I love sashimi. I often buy fresh maguro at the Union store in the neighborhood. After I open the package, Baby knows right away that we’re both going to eat maguro together. Baby eats like a pig, but I can eat much more maguro than he can.

I always come home after my 2ndperiod class. As I get close to home, Baby recognizes the sound of my scooter and waits for me on the sidewalk in front of the building where we live. Baby is a cat, but he kind of acts like a dog when he comes running to greet me on my scooter when I get home.

Since I don’t have a car, I sometimes have to take Baby to the veterinarian on my scooter. I put him in my shirt and I get on my scooter. He likes to stick his head out of my shirt to see what’s happening outside as we drive by many things and people along the way. I guess people are a little surprised to see a cat’s head sticking out of my shirt as I ride by on my scooter. I wonder if they’re thinking, “Heeeee… hen na gaijin da.”

私が、朝起きた時に最初にすることは、顔を洗うよりも先に、ベイビーにご飯をあげることです。そして、朝の始めに、朝食とコーヒーをつくります。学校へ行くために家を出る前に、歯をみがきます。ベイビーは、私と同じ時に家を出ます。彼は、外へ出て友達と遊びます。そして私はスクーターへ乗り学校へと向かいます。ベイビーは働けなくてお金を稼ぐことができないので、働いて彼にご飯を買ってあげるのは、私の責任です。私は刺身が大好き。近所のユニオンというお店でよくマグロを買います。パッケージを開けると、ベイビーはこれから一緒にマグロを食べるということが、すぐに分かります。ベイビーはブタのように、よく食べます。しかし、私は彼よりももっとマグロを食べます。

いつも、２時限目のクラス後に帰宅します。私が家の近くに着くと、ベイビーはスクーターの音を分かっていて、私が住む建物の前の歩道で私を待ちます。ベイビーはネコですが、私が帰宅した時に出迎える挨拶をしにスクーターへ駆け寄り、犬のように振る舞います。

私は車を持っていないので、時々、ベイビーをスクーターで獣医へ連れて行かなくてはいけません。彼をシャツの中に入れて、スクーターに乗ります。彼は、頭を出して、私達が通り過ぎる多くの事、そして、道々の人を、何が起こっているのか見るのが好きです。人々は、私がスクーターに乗る時、シャツからネコの頭が出ているのを見て少し驚いているように思います。「へー、変な外人だ」そう思われているかもしれません。
